Kumbhalgarh

Kumbhalgarh FortKumbhalgarh is famous for the fort and the wildlife sanctuary it houses. The location of the place is such that makes it virtually inaccessible. In order to make it accessible from other cities of Rajasthan, Rana Kumbha from Mewar constructed this fortress on a hill.

The Kumbhalgarh Fort is a remarkable structure that covers 36 kilometres of the Aravali hill ranges. The fort situated on a hill was never conquered. The fort has functioned as a witness to several battles. The fort is guarded by seven massive gates and is strengthened by watchtowers.

Badal Mahal Palace is situated on the top of the Kumbhalgarh Fort. The palace has beautiful rooms painted in shades of green, white and turquoise, a complete contrast to the earthy coloured fort. In the 19th century, the palace was reconstructed by Rana Fateh Singh.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in Rajasthan where the activities of the rarely found wolf can be observed. The bird life inhabiting in the sanctuary is also vivid. Its natural beauty is quite inviting. Apart from trekking on foot, the onlookers can enjoy the visit to the sanctuary on the horseback. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from October to June.

Dabok Airport in Udaipur is the nearest airport. It is 85 kilometres away from Kumbhalgarh. Regular deluxe buses to Kumbhalgarh are also available from Udaipur.
